Anthony Ayala always knew he wanted to join the Armed Forces. Shortly after graduating from Ukiah High School he enlisted in the United States Army, and was soon deployed to the Middle East. Once there he served in Iraq and Kuwait.
In total, he served four and a half years of active duty service while being stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado as a Military Police Officer. When his active duty time was completed he enlisted in the Army National Guard as a Reservist, and enrolled in Mendocino College to obtain his Associates Degree in Administration of Justice. Shortly after he graduated he was again deployed for a year, but this deployment was to Cuba.
Additionally, when the wildfires affected the community SSG Ayala’s Army National Guard unit was one that responded. He spent several weeks in Santa Rosa, California helping those who had been affected.
Throughout his ten years of military service he has earned many awards. Such as: Overseas Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal, California State Service Ribbon, Non-Commissioned officer Professional Development Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Army Achievement Medal, California State Service Ribbon.
Currently, SSG Ayala is proudly serving in the Army National Guard while also working full-time for Ukiah Unified School District.
